Punk Goes Pop Volume 5 Release Date

Punk Goes
Fearless Records just announced that ‘Punk Goes Pop Volume 5’ is to be released on November 6. This album is the fifth volume in the Punk Goes Pop series and includes performances by The Maine, Mayday Parade, We Came as Romans, Breathe Carolina, and Forever the Sickest Kids. The collection is well known for their other albums such as ‘Punk Goes Crunk,’ which features alternative rock artists covering R&B songs, ‘Punk Goes Classic Rock’, which features classic rock songs, and ‘Punk Goes Acoustic’, which features alternative rock songs.

With the announcement of the release date came the track listing and a lyric video of ‘Call Me Maybe,’ which was covered by Upon this Dawning. The single originally released by Carly Rae Jepsen has been given quite the makeover, complete with screaming vocals, a heavier beat, and darker guitar riffs. The song takes a different feel and is refreshing when compared to the original pop version. ‘Call Me Maybe’ can be listened to on the Punk Goes website or on youtube. As part of the marketing campaign, if fans go to the Punk Goes website and click ‘Like’ they receive a free download of the ‘Call Me Maybe.’ Fans can also stream Bruno Mars’ ‘Grenade’ performed by Memphis May Fire. The new version of ‘Grenade’ features a double bass pedal, which livens the song.

It’s always interesting to see how different artists do covers of popular songs and make them their own by increasing or decreasing the tempo, changing the lyrics, or other subtle melody changes. Other amazing covers were featured on the previous Punk Goes Pop (Volume 4), included Peirce the Veil’s cover of ‘Just the Way You Are’ and Go Radio’s cover of ‘Rolling in the Deep.’

Licensing music is yet another way artists receive alternative forms of revenue. When an artist covers a song, they have to get a license from the publisher as well as the songwriter and record label depending on the use. In today’s age, where album sales aren’t the primary source of income, artists and labels must seek out other forms of generating revenue. Keeping an open mind when it comes to revenue is extremely important. Although an artist might not want their song covered or remixed, it has the potential of increasing revenue while increasing artist awareness at the same time.
