Ashes Forever Release "All You Love Will Put You"

Ashes Forever
Ashes Forever, a New York band with their own genre, has been busy in the studio for the past several months. They have yet again surprised listeners with what they're capable of and have created something remarkable. It's definitely something worth listening to, if not to see how different this band really is. Ashes Forever writes their own rules when it comes to their songs and they don't mind going against the confines of one particular genre.

The newest release from Ashes Forever is due out August 2nd. I got a chance to catch up with drummer, Matt Dillon to get some more information on it.
What was the inspiration behind this album?

I think the inspiration for this album came at the tail end of recording the last one. We always seem to come up with most of our new ideas before we aren't even finished tracking the current ones. The last album was pretty weird. When we were composing it, the concept was to introduce new themes, but just long enough so they never really catch on. Well, besides that obnoxiously long marching band roll part. That was just thrown in there to see how long I could do it! This time around, it was all about cohesion.

When it came down to mixing and mastering the new album, Dave Grohl was a huge inspiration. He has always been outspoken about the way recording has changed over the last ten years. We could have easily sat down and removed all of the overtones, copied and pasted computer generated guitar and drum tracks to a grid, and made that thing sound like everything else that is out today, but we wanted to really leave everything as raw as possible. We also went for different tones and levels on each track.

What does this release mean to you?

I think the most important thing about this album is really showing what we can do behind our instruments. We really took our songwriting process to the next level.

What made you guys decide to go purely instrumental?

Well, we didn't decide to go purely instrumental. Just for this album, and maybe the next one. The vocals will return at some point. Maybe we will be screaming again, maybe it'll be clean singing. Time will tell. Our goal as a band is to constantly improve on our sound, to write original ideas, and to have fun! We both love all kinds of genres of music, so it's hard to stay in just one. Besides, the screaming kind of limits your audience. Growing up around the punk rock scene, screaming has become normal to me, but I want to be able to share what I make with everyone- Whether it be the 16 year old punk rock kid, the 28 year old metalhead, or the 54 year old composer.

What major distribution channels are you using for this release?

For distribution, we are using Disc Makers. They have this package that gets you on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, etc. We don't have any outside help. We pay entirely for everything we do ourselves, and promote it ourselves. We end up losing more money than we spend making every album, but we love what we do.

Where did you record it?

We recorded with Joseph Pregenzer at Godfather Studios, the same person who did our last album. This time, we chose to master with Jamie King of the Basement Recording in North Carolina. He did pretty much all of Between the Buried and Me's stuff, as well as my favorite band, Canvas Solaris.

Any upcoming shows/future plans?

There will be an EP release show at some point. It's been nice taking some time off. We will eventually get around to another tour. I guess it all depends on how the new album is received. Personally though, I am most excited to get into the studio again.
