Matchbook Romance Reunites for GK! Holiday Festival

A Very GK! Holiday Festival

This weekend, A Very GK! Holiday Festival is coming to New York for it’s final show this year in Poughkeepsie. In October, the Alternative Press announced that Matchbook Romance will reunite to headline the GK! Holiday Festival for the New York Date. Matchbook Romance released two albums, “Stories and Alibis” in 2003 and “Monsters” in 2006 (Billboard). Among the band’s major hits were “Monsters,” and “Promise,” both were featured on MTV and VH1. In the past, they’ve toured with big names such as Yellowcard, Fall Out Boy, and Chiodos and have been members of the Take Action Tour. Originally from Poughkeepsie, New York, it made sense for Matchbook Romance to come back from hiatus for this show, it will be their first live performance in over 3 years.

I was at their last show at The Chance in 2006 before they announced a hiatus a few months later. Matchbook Romance is known to put on a great holiday show, decorating the drum kit in Christmas lights and breaking into Carol of the Bells during the breakdown of one of their songs. In 2009, the band did a few reunion shows but have yet to come fully out of hiatus and release any new material. Instead, the members went separate ways and into side projects.

So this weekend, The Chance will host the GK! Holiday Festival with Matchbook Romance and Anadivine headlining. Also sharing the stage will be Kid Jerusalem, Hit the Lights, A Loss for Words, The Dangerous Summer, and many more. I had the pleasure of interviewing Kid Jerusalem in July; I hope to catch up with them at the show to see what they’ve been up to since they played with Bayside and Taking Back Sunday earlier this year. Read the entire post here.

Let’s hope that Matchbook Romance will decide to come out of hiatus for good and release some new songs. Attending the GK! Holiday Festival is a great way to end 2012. Tickets are still on sale through Sound Rink or through The Chance box office.
