Bayside |
In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, several people are
still without power while others are left with nothing, trying to rebuild their
lives. There are a lot of unanswered questions about the future; how will those
affected continue to live their lives and how will they fare without
electricity, food, water, and other basic needs? Volunteers have come together
to try and help out by bringing donations or contributing monetarily to the American Red Cross.
Some musicians are using their national reach to get fans to
help out in any way possible. Bayside,
a band I wrote about just a few weeks ago, has always called New York “home.”
Although they are on the road touring now with Taking Back Sunday, they are
still looking to help any possible way they can. And now, through their
merchandise website, they are offering a Hurricane Sandy Benefit shirt to their
fans. All of the proceeds from the sale of this shirt will go to the Greater
New York American Red Cross (Bayside).
Bayside released
the following statement on Thursday through Facebook and their website.
“Most people are aware by now of the effects that Hurricane Sandy
had on areas of the Northeast. The images and commentary have already become
unavoidable on the news and on social networks. The four members of Bayside all call Long Island, Queens and
Manhattan home. These were some of the most heavily damaged areas. We have
friends and family members that have died, had damage to their houses or lost
power as a result of the storm. Needless to say, we have been severely effected
by this storm and being on the road right now, stuck watching the terrible
images on television with everyone else has us feeling helpless.
We decided the best way that we could help our families and
friends and the families and friends of others is by offering our platform as a
means to raise money. Millions of people are without power, thousands have been
displaced with billions of dollars in damage. We're offering a shirt in our
webstore right now where all proceeds will be donated to the Greater New York
American Red Cross. It's a great way for everyone around the country to help in
the relief effort.
Our friends, families and neighborhoods mean everything to us
and they have always been there for us. We want to be there for them. Help us
do that.
The beautiful shirt is only $20 and goes to help those in need.
It’s amazing how music continues to affect lives outside of the normal spectrum
and has the ability to have such an immense reach. I encourage fans to make the
donation and support not only Bayside,
but New York and the surrounding areas as well.
